Disclaimer: this has to be one of the most boring days of the trip. Feel free to stop reading here (if you started from the bottom). If you are just starting to read this, It would be best to start from the bottom and work your way up since this is all in reverse chronological order.
Taking the Train
Well, today was our last day in England - even though it was not much of a day. We woke up bright and early (4:00 am) so that we could make it to the train station in time to catch the 5:15 train to the airport. We got up and started to get ready and I called the cab company - but there was no answer. We had to haul all of our gear on foot to the station. While we had walked this journey several times before this week, it was a bit different when you were dragging along 1-1/2 weeks worth of stuff behind you. We made it to the station a bit early and boarded the train.
The Airport
What is there to say about the airport? As always, there were long lines at the ticket counter and at security. I was a bit paranoid and wanted to make sure that we made it there a good three hours early - especially after the last time I was at Gatwick! After a stop for lunch and the souvenier shop, we found our way to the furthest possible gate (of course) where our plane was preparing to board. We hung out until we boarded and away we went. 8-1/2 hours later…
Cincinnati
We made it to Cinci where we had a brief layover - enough to grab a bite to eat, call our loved ones, and then board another plane. Hooray! We did get to eat at a Cincinnati Chili place where I had a 3-way spaghetti chilli. It is an interesting dish - if you ever stop in Cinci, you will have to try some. Back on the plane, and a few hours later…
Home
We fianlly made it home. It was about 7:00 at night in Utah, which doesn’t sound too bad, but when you think about it, it was actually 2:00 am in the UK. We had been awake for about 22 hours and we were exhausted. We made it back home and got our luggage inside and just crashed. It was nice to be asleep back in our own beds, and our cute doggie Suzi was sure glad to see us.
